Dr. Olubunmi Basirat Oyewuwo is an assistant professor of social work at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago, IL. She has led qualitative and quantitative research projects aimed at exploring and improving the health and well-being outcomes of women, as well as Black, Muslim, and immigrant communities. Dr. Oyewuwo is currently the PI of a national survey that examines American Muslims’ experiences and perceptions of intimate partner violence. She has disseminated her research in peer-reviewed academic journals, academic conferences, and to community and service provider audiences. Prior to pursuing her PhD, Dr. Oyewuwo practiced as a social worker in the domestic violence field. Her practice experience included working in a domestic violence shelter as a legal advocate and in a battering intervention and prevention program as a group facilitator.
Inspire’s TA maximizes the value of the collective experience in diverse groups, ensuring that there is peer-to-peer learning and connection, something which is very beneficial when programs are so geographically separate.
